National Association of Art Critics: The international summer school for curators
Call for applications
In order to contribute to the development of the institution of curators, the National Association of Art Critics invites art students, historians and other interested parties to participate in the international summer school for curators.
The two-week summer school offers an exciting opportunity to attend seminars, lectures and a workshop instructed by experienced and well-known curators as well as highly qualified professors of art history and theory from different academic institutions. The courses offered will provide insight into gallery/museum administration and management, preservation of works, exploration of gallery space and exhibition design, techniques of new media art exhibitions and technical demonstrations, arts marketing and audience development, introduction to cultural studies, cultural policy and practice, etc.. Besides academic seminars, there will be practical activities and a workshop as well.
This will include visits to artists’ studios to learn about their work and selecting pieces for exhibition as well as a writing practices seminar for catalogues, brochures, magazines, books and finding alternative spaces for art exhibitions. Throughout the intensive two-week program students will be required to take a methods course, to attend theworkshop and to choose one of the offered theory courses.
In order to apply to the summer school, you are required to hold residency in one of the former Soviet republics or in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and former Yugoslav countries.
Holding a degree in art history, museum studies or/and other related areas, is not a requirement. However, preference will be given to those applicants who have some academic or professional experience in the field. The minimum educational requirement is that the applicant has to have completed the third year of university studies and continue to be enrolled in a higher educational institution.
The program has several types of financial assistance and grants that will be awarded solely on the basis of the applicant’s merit. The first type has a value of 800 USD and this amount covers transportation as well as accommodation and living expenses throughout the period of the program. The second type has a value of 400 USD which covers accommodation and living costs. The applicant is required to pay for his/her own transportation costs. If you are not an award holder, you will be required to take care of all your expenses throughout the summer school program. The summer school has no tuition fees or any other financial requirements.
